Style high
We bought a guest apartment!
These last few days I've been enjoying my self so much with styling our new 2 room apartment, where we're going to entertain and put up guests. I get a lot of questions from you lovelies about my process and choices when it comes to interior design and styling, and thought I would share a few tips and trick.
- Try imagining that no one is going to live their everyday life in the residence. Start with a clean slate, hold on to the mantra "less is more", and "if in doubt, leave it out".
- Keep personal objects to a minimum and make sure your personal objects match the style of your house. I am at a stage where I want to keep in touch with forest elements, so I bought wooden brushes for hair, make up and teeth, and a bamboo hand bag. You never know what ends up showing in pictures :)
- Make sure to have enough rooms to put the things you need to have a comfortable life. Storage closets for tools for work, hobby supplies etc. And (it goes without saying) a big walk in wardrobe.
- Entertainment is a private thing. Books and multi media equipment should be kept in separate rooms, or at least behind a closed door. However, put out a few books with subjects that seem interesting and smart, and that are visually pleasing. This stimulates the urge to educate yourself.
- Put small amounts of food and drinks out on display; a cup of tea, a bowl of (dry) cereal, a nicely wrapped piece of chocolate. It gives a homey, but not lived in, style
- As the cherry on top, take a towel, fold it nicely to hide edges, and throw it in a corner or at a straight surface, e.g. a kitchen towel over the edge of the sink, or a small blanket in the middle of the sofa.
I especially liked styling the table. I had to explain very carefully to my husband that it's not a dinner table, but a decor table, and that the tea was not for drinking. Lol. He's so clueless.
Also, he almost sat in the sofa! I almost screamed at him, trying desperately to get him to understand the sofa in an entertaining room is not for relaxing, it's part of the visual aesthetics to be enjoyed on a distance.
I played around with mud colours. My husband called the new style "Shabby shit", I don't think it will catch on.

We're not going to spend a lot of time in this apartment, so I don't have to take into consideration any of our personal belongings. That's a relief!
